Our teachers know their students and work with them to help them realise their potential as learners. Our focus on authentic learning and authentic assessment ensures that we challenge our students to grow in their learning and achieve their personal best.

Throughout our community of Sydney Catholic schools, we have shown high performance of our students in measures such as NAPLAN and the HSC.

De La Salle College Ashfield Learning and AchievementDe La Salle College Ashfield’s differentiated approach to learning coupled with commitment and dedication from our students has led to a higher rate of growth in NAPLAN tests across both literacy and numeracy (compared to state averages and averages of students at statistically similar schools across the country). Our students are achieving above expectations with impressive individual results. Collective continual growth is also evident across our Year 7 and Year 9 cohorts. HSC results have been very strong with the 2018 cohort achieving the best academic results in recent history.

The college gained accreditation for the Newman Selective Gifted Education program in 2018 and students in this program continue to flourish and reach their potential.

Our students are excelling in the sporting arena too. The college has NSW state swimmers and runners, a number of Metropolitan Catholic Colleges (MCC) and Combined Catholic Colleges (CCC) representatives across football, touch football, rugby league, swimming and athletics. These students have demonstrated significant dedication to college and representative sport, always striving to achieve their best.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award continues to grow and cements itself as one of the key co-curricular activities offered at the college. Around 50 students from Years 9 to 12 participate in The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award across Bronze, Silver and Gold Award categories each year.

In other extracurricular areas, our debating and public speaking students continue to compete strongly. Our performing arts students have demonstrated their excellence with a number of students being chosen to be part of the CaSPA Youth Ensemble, and several singers were also selected as soloists at the Lasallian Tercentenary Mass. The annual college showcase event displays our best and brightest talents in music and drama.

These achievements are a reflection of our students living the school motto, ‘Esto Vir’ – to be the best man you can be.
